Bent Flower 1: Tulip

Certain subjects can seem to be off limits to “serious” artists. Flowers. There are a myriad of flower painters out there. Crowd pleasers. Is there anything left in flowers to be said? Has the area been exhausted? I knew Tal R was working on flowers, so I felt there must be something left. So I took his idea of a subject bending to your artistic demon and made a number of these colour prints. I feel the demon did its work.

Apples and Pears

The flowers had opened the gates for colour prints, so I set my demon loose in this still life. These prints helped me in my understanding of colour. That colour doesn’t exist in a vacuum. They work with other colours to achieve their effect.

Nothing Beside Remains

A landscape. This is a field as crowded as botanicals. Again taking a lead from Tal R, this time his Copenhagen paintings. The idea of the living and the dead occupying the same space. That there are parts of the physical world that only the dead understand.

Fish Head

A return to the monochrome. You have to every now and then. It keeps you grounded in a way. I hadn’t thought about this as another print about Death until it was pointed out to me. It has something of the tortured look of one of Otto Dix’ war pictures.
