Blackthorn, Cemex
Like Mount Fuji, Cemex is an ever-present feature of the Rugby landscape. I caught sight of it one grey, winter's day through the threatening presence of a denuded thorn bush. It was like some fairy-tale castle, guarding the presence of Sleeping Beauty, waiting for her awakening kiss.
Kind of Blue
My wife is a kind of unsuspecting life model. If I feel she is engrossed in something, then I have a chance to make a drawing. Sometimes I will have a few minutes before she moves, sometimes seconds. She held this pose for all of 30 seconds. Enough to get down the essentials. Combined with the previous drawing (all of two minutes) I had enough to build this print.

Skinny woman
A woodcut print. Or rather mixed, wood and lino. Though the black lino block printed behind the others was not cut into at all. The original drawing was from a life drawing session. One of the early 3-minute “warm-ups”. But I felt it captured something. The seat and screen serve as excuses to add flat blocks of colour.

Blue coat
A reduction print. Five impressions in two shades of blue. It was an idea that came to me in the moment. When I saw the coats hanging together I knew I had to draw and print them. The picture is quite simple, but seemed to offer a range of both figurative and abstract interpretations. It is quite popular too, perhaps because of this deceptive simplicity that offers plenty of room for the viewer to manoeuvre.
